Abstract
927,737. Making wave-guides; welding, by pressure; soldering; flanging. PHILIPS 'ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. July 17 1961 [July 30, 1960], No. 27254/61. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). A copper-containing coupling flange 1 is connected to a rectangular copper-containing waveguide 7 having one transverse dimension 8 several times larger than the other transverse dimension 9 by providing the flange 1 with a collar extending in the axial direction of the waveguide 7, removing the corners of the collar to form two narrow tongues 2, 4 and two wide tongues 3, 5, coating at least the narrow tongues 2, 4 with tin solder spotwelding the narrow tongues to the waveguide 7 and tin-soldering all the tongues and the body of the flange 1 to the waveguide 7. The collar may be seamed to the flange 1 by screws or by hand soldering. Alternatively, the collar and the flange 1 are made in one piece from brass by hot-pressing. The spot-welding is effected by using an external pointed electrode and an internal electrode in the form of a flat molybdenum plate.
