Abstract
927,705. Electric igniters. GRAVINER MANUFACTURING CO. Ltd., and WILKINSON SWORD Ltd. Aug. 29, 1961 [Sept. 20, 1960], No. 32205/60. Class 9 (1). An electric igniter comprises a metal tubular body 10 having an inwardly projecting flange 10a abutting a ceramic insulator 11 of stepped diameter. The widest part 11a is given a metallic peripheral surface and can be secured to the body 10 by solder 12. An intermediate section 11b of smaller diameter and an end portion 11c of much reduced diameter are enclosed by an insulating sleeve 18 over which is fitted a rubber cup 20, the space between the insulator 11 and the sleeve 18 being filled with explosive. An outer metal easing 21 having a closed end 21a is soldered to the body 10 at 22. A wire 13 for igniting the explosive is wound around the part 11c and has one end connected by solder 16 to a lead wire 14 carried through an axial bore in the insulator 11, while its other end is soldered at 17 to a lead wire 15 taken through a parallel bore 11e The lead wires, after passing through a washer 26 of insulating material, extend along axial bores of contact pins 24 held in the body 10 by insulating moulding 23. Each lead wire is electrically connected by solder 25 to its respective pin 24.
