Abstract

811,159. Blasting fuzes. MONTECATINI SOC. GENERALE PER L'INDUSTRIA E CHIMICA. May 22, 1956 [May 23, 1955], No. 15847/56. Class 9(1) An electric blasting cap is provided with means for preventing accidental discharge by stray currents comprising a metal sleeve 8 placed around the lead wires 5, 6 within the metal shell 1, the sleeve 8 being coated over the greater part of its outer surface with insulating material and having its inner surface in electrical connection with one lead wire by means of a conductor 10. The uninsulated part of the sleeve is thus separated from the shell by a spark gap 11 across which electrostatic charges collecting on the leads can discharge without igniting the matchhead 4a on the bridge wire 4. The shell 1 contains the usual primer charge over a detonating charge. The sleeve 8 may have a longitudinal insert of elastic material to facilitate assembly with the shell 1. Alternatively the sleeve may be formed in two parts each connected to a lead wire. In a modification two sleeves are used, one associated with each lead wire.
