Abstract

782,335. Ammunition fuzes. MOTHA TREUINSTITUT. Jan. 10, 1956 [Jan. 11, 1955], No. 790/56. Class 9(1) A nose cap for a projectile having within it conducting means adapted to complete an electric firing circuit on deformation of the cap comprises an outer part 1 of insulating synthetic resin spaced from an inner part 2 of the same material by an insulating ring 3, the inner surface of the part 1 and outer surface of the part 2 being coated with a metal. The material of the part 1 is sufficiently elastic for the cap to recover its initial shape, if deformed during handling before the projectile is fired. The part 2 may alternatively be of metal sufficiently rigid to withstand shocks and blows during handling. In a modification, the metal coat on the inner surface of part 1 is replaced by a coiled metal spring conforming to the inner surface. In Fig. 3, the part 1 has internal ribs 6, each rib being grooved to seat a steel wire 7, the wires being the conducting portion of the inner surface. The ends of the wires are embedded in the cap and near their lower ends contact a conducting ring 8 within which is an insulating ring 9 to position the part 2 (not shown). The ring 8 is connected to part of the ignition circuit of the projectile. Polyethylene may be the synthetic resin, alternatively rubber may be used.
