926,966. Gas fire radiants. OATLEY TECHNICAL DEVELOPMENTS Ltd. Aug. 4, 1961 [Aug. 16, 1960], No. 28299/60. Class 126. A gas fire radiant has a restricted frontal aperture 21 immediately above an openwork front face, the upper end of the radiant being otherwise closed to form a chamber 25 in which products of combustion circulate before passing out of the radiant. Spaced horizontal bars 10 of pentagonal cross-section form the openwork front; the rear faces of the bars carrying thorns 20 projecting rearward. The side and rear walls are solid, the rear wall having forward projecting thorns 18. The thorns are all of paraboloid shape, and are in horizontal rows, those in each row being staggered with respect to those in adjacent rows. The side walls 9 project forward to end level with the front edges of the horizontal bars. The front wall above the top aperture is inclined rearwards and where an upwardly and rearwardly directed flue exists, may form part of its lower wall. The top section of the rear wall is inclined forwards. The combustion chamber 4 at the base of the radiant has solid vertical walls except for a vertically elongated slot 7 at each side for ignition, and may in some cases be separate from the radiant proper. According to the Provisional Specification, vertical grooves of semi-circular section may be provided on the front surface above the aperture 21.
