Abstract
1,199,684. Fireplace surrounds. REGAL SURROUNDS Ltd. 12 March, 1969 [20 March, 1968], No. 13521/68. Heading F4W. A fireplace surround for a gas or electric fire comprises a wooden mantel-piece 10, two spaced-apart uprights each consisting of two tapered wooden members 12, 13 between which extends a backing board 16 carrying decorative slats 17, and a hearth formed with a rearwardly and downwardly extending front wall 23 the front edge of which projects forwardly of the uprights. The top 20 of the hearth, which may be of asbestos covered with a decorative plastic sheeting, is located at least three inches above floor level. Holes 25 for the inlet of air may be provided in the side walls 21 of the hearth. In a modification the ends of the uprights may be curved (Fig. 4, not shown), and the uprights may be shaped to form recesses to contain shelves (34, 35, Fig. 6, not shown).
