Abstract
926,772. Thread-guiding pulleys. S. SMITH & SONS (ENGLAND) Ltd. Nov. 22, 1961 [Oct. 4, 1960], No. 34015/60. Class 120 (2). [Also in Groups XXIV and XXXIV] A guide pulley for wires, threads or filaments comprises a ceramic annulus 19, forming the base of the pulley groove, bonded between recessed metallic annular plates 20 forming the pulley flanges, the annuli 19, 20 being mounted on a sleeve 17 carried by a shell 14 housing the outer races 13 of ball-bearings 12. The annulus 19 is formed of a material which is predominantly sintered aluminium oxide. The shell 14 has flanges 16 retaining lubricant. As shown, the plates 20 are held against a shoulder on the sleeve 17 by upsetting the chamfered end 22 thereof. In a modification the annular plates 20 are shaped to form divergent pulley flanges and have inner cylindrical flanges by which they are mounted centrally on the sleeve 17. The sleeve 17 may be of steel and the plates 20 be of aluminium or aluminium alloy.
