Abstract
901,527. Drawing wire. PULLIN, C. G. April 6, 1959 [April 22, 1958], No. 12797/58. Class 83 (4). A draw block is provided with a passage 16 for cooling air from a space 17 below the block to flow upwardly over the external surface of the coiled wire on the block, while some of the air from the space 17 flows into a number of open air channels 7 to cool the inner surface of the coiled wire. The air space 17 is formed by a cup-shaped ring 10 and the base of the draw block, the passage 16 being of annular form. The channels 7 may be straight, curved or helical and may be inclined to or parallel to the axis of the block, the crosssection being square or curved. Air passes to the channels 7 through passages 8 in the block. A wire-drawing machine may include several such draw blocks with drawing dies interposed, the dies also being cooled by a current of air.
