Abstract

1,137,715. Drawing tube. MARSHALL RICHARDS MACHINE CO. Ltd. 4 May, 1966 [5 May, 1965], No. 18915/65. Heading B3P. A method of cold-drawing metal tubing 1 through a die 2 is characterized in that the plug 4 which floats in the bore of the tubing during the drawing process has at least one air passage 7 through it. The passages are all parallel to the axis of the tubing and each has a flexible tube 8 at the end 6 of the plug to allow the air to flow past the lubricant 9. Alternatively, the end 6 of the plug may have an annular recess which retains the lubricant. The passages preferably have circular cross-section but may be star-shaped and may have radial fins. The passage of air in the direction B through the plug as the tubing is fed through the die serves to cool the plug.
