Abstract
747,134. Pivot bearings. STRAUMANN, R. March 2, 1954 [Nov. 28, 1953], No. 6154/54. Class 12 (1). [Also in Group XXII] A method for producing a pivot bearing for a spindle of a clockwork or like mechanism comprises homogenizing and isothermally tempering a steel wire, cold-drawing said wire until its tensile strength exceeds 200 kg. per sq. mm. with a hardness above 600 Vickers, heat treating the wire at a temperature between 200‹ and 300‹ C. to make its hardness exceed 700 Vickers, and securing a length of said wire in an axial socket in the end of the spindle proper. A pivot a, Fig. 1, c, Fig. 2, thus made and secured in a terminal bore at each end of a balance staff b of clockwork mechanism so as to extend from the staff a distance of about a quarter of the distance between the outer pivot ends, is supported laterally, adjacent its point of contact with the jewel, Fig. 1, or close to its junction with the staff b, Fig. 2.
