[Also in Group XXIV] A change-speed control for a hand applied motor driven tool comprises a pivotal lever 24 connected to a pinion 25 meshing with a rack in the tool casing. A double sliding helical gear 36, 37 is moved axially by a selector fork 35 rigid with a selector rod 32, to change relative speeds between a motor pinion 12 and a tool shaft 10. A thermoplastic lever 24 rigid with a pinion 25 is pivoted on a stud 30 rigid with the rod 32, such that rotation of the lever 24 and pinion 25 in conjunction with the rack formed in the tool casing produces axial movement of the selector rod. The lever is flanged to cover the slot in the tool casing.
