[Also in Group XXVI] In a motor-driven pump for hot liquids the sealed motor casing 1, 2 is filled with insulating liquid and communicates with the pump chamber through a baffle 15 so that pumped liquid can enter and leave the motor casing to relieve pressure due to heating and cooling. The motor windings are spaced by inorganic material, e.g. glass fibre, the insulation being provided by the liquid filling the motor casing. This liquid may be the same as that pumped if this happens to be non-conducting. Sheetmetal screens 26 protect the stator windings from turbulence. The terminal box is sealed from the motor casing by terminal board 32. In a modification a small impeller adjacent the bearing 17 circulates liquid through a bore in the motor shaft to the ducts 18, 19. To prevent heat flow from the pump to the motor casing they are joined by an intermediate part 3 having a narrow neck 3a. Radiation from the pump body is prevented by an asbestos screen 7. The pump body is also covered by an insulating layer 8.
