Abstract

544,930. Electric motors. HAYWARD, TYLER & CO., Ltd., and IVANOFF, A. Nov. 11, 1940, No. 16357. [Class 35] [Also in Groups XXVI, XIII and XXXVI] A pump &c. 2 working under conditions of high pressure is driven by an electric motor 4a 1b immersed in a fluid at a pressure comparable with that of the pump, so that high pressure stuffing boxes &c. between pump and motor, may be dispensed with. The pump motor may be on the same shaft 3, mounted in bearings 7, 8 containing white metal bearings 7b, 8b contacting sleeves 3a, 3b rigid with the shaft. The shaft is hung on a thrust bearing 25, 26 and carries a small pump 13 for circulating cooling fluid through a cooler 12 and then up the surface of the shaft and through passages 20 round the stator of the motor. The motor conductor is packed against leakage where it enters the motor casing 4 by a bulge 30 in a stuffing box 31. The stator may be enclosed in a flexible container filled with an insulating liquid to allow for expansion of the liquid with temperature.
