Abstract

925,287. Sewing-machines. SINGER MANUFACTURING CO. March 1, 1962 [March 3, 1961], No. 8025/62. Addition to 898,076. Class 112. One part of the stitch finger mechanism described in the parent Specification can be moved from an operative position to an inoperative position, and vice-versa. The movement can be made during stitching, so that a stocking may be sewn with a loose leg seam and a tight foot seam. The movable portion 58 of the finger is pivoted at 79 to one end of a lever 73 provided at its other end with a handle 76 and pivoted at 71 to a split collar 66, 67 secured to the spindle 20 which rotatably supports the outer feed cup 23. Manual operation of the handle 76 moves lever 73 to the position shown dotted, to withdraw the finger portion 58 from its operative position and allow tight stitches to be formed around the remaining finger portion 29.
