Abstract

537,702. Sewing-machines. BRUSSELL, I. Sept. 25, 1939, No. 21526. [Class 112] A stop rod 34 has a pin 27 and oblique slot 24 connection with a slide 21 carrying a beltshifter 19. The rod is normally urged upwards by a spring and in that movement moves the belt on to a loose pulley 10. During a stitching operation, the rod is restrained by a projection 39 on a lever 38 pivoted at 41. This lever is moved to release the rod 34 by the stop-mechanism control. This control comprises a shaft 48 driven by a worm and wheel and carrying sets of stop projections 53. When one of these projections hits the tip of a lever 46 the lever is turned about its pivot 56 and its movement is communicated through an intermediary lever 42 to the lever 38. The sets of projections, 53, 54, 55, Fig. 3, which may be one, two and three projections, are axially displaced from one another and the lever 46 is moved at will to be in line with a selected set. This is done by means of a head 58, fixed on the pivot pin 56 of the lever, which has a pin engaging in a helical groove 61 on a fixed sleeve 60. By turning the head, the pivot pin 56 and lever 46 are moved axially. The machine has two needles and for a four-hole button the clamp is shifted laterally during the cycle. This is effected by a lever 72 and a cam 86 driven by gear wheels 79, 80. The clamp jaws are adjusted to suit differing sizes of button by means of a plate having divergent slots engaging pins on the jaw members. The needle thread tensions are released when the machine is stopped.
