Abstract

905,313. Sewing-machines. NECCHI S.p.A. June 29, 1960 [July 7, 1959], No. 22787/60. Class 112. Feed by clamps (Figs. 2, 6).-A sewing- machine has a work-carrying frame 31 disposed above the bed-plate 2 carried on carriages 27, 29 disposed below the bed for movement in different directions. The carriage 27 is slidable in one direction on a guide carried on the second, lower, carriage 29 which is arranged to slide in a direction at right-angles to that of carriage 27, on a guide secured beneath the bed. The carriage 27 has a peg 24 which is engaged by the forked ends of two levers 18, 19, pivoted at 20, 21, respectively, in the bed. The levers are oscillated through members 10<1>, 11<1>, from followers 10, 11 engaging interchangeable cams 8, 9 on a shaft 5 rotated by gearing from the arm shaft 4. Needles moving laterally.-A further cam 58 on the shaft 5 is provided with a follower 59 controlling the lateral movements of the needle. Frames.-The aperture 25 may be closed by a plate when the frame 31 is not in use, when fabric sewn is engaged by the usual feed dog. An aperture in the arm permits removal of the cams. Starting and stopping clutches (Figs. 6, 7).- The driving pulley 39 is loose on the arm shaft 4. A spring 41 is wound around a surface 40 on the pulley and has one end secured to the hand wheel 43, the other being secured to a ring 44 rotatable between a rigid stop 46 and a rubber stop 47 both disposed on the hand wheel. Normally, the rotation of the pulley tightens the spring and the hand wheel and shaft are driven. A cam 37 on the shaft 5 has a follower 38 engaging a lever 50 which is moved by the cam after one rotation of the shaft 5 and hence a cycle of movement of the frame 31, to abut a projection 53 on the ring 44, expand the spring and disconnect the drive with the needle in the raised position. A cam 52 may be manually rotated to move the end 37<1> of the follower curving from the cam to prevent this automatic stoppage.
