Abstract
Cellulose acetate may be coloured by spindyeing with a metal complex of monoazo dyes containing one chromium or cobalt atom bound to two molecules of two different monoazo dyes of formulae:- <FORM:0924520/IV(a)/1> in which R and R1 each represent the residue of an o-hydroxybenzene which contains a nitro group and is free from water-solubilizing groups and the acyl residue is free from sulphonic and carboxylic acid groups (see Group IV(c)). In an example, the dye obtained by chroming a mixture of the dyes 4-nitro-6-chloro - 2 - aminophenol --> 2 - naphthol and 4 - nitro - 6 - chloro - 2 - aminophenol --> 1-acetylamino-7-naphthol is added to an acetone solution of acetyl-cellulose. The solution is dry spun to give a greenish grey fibre. Specification 637,404 is referred to.ALSO:The invention comprises metallized azo dyes which contain one chromium or cobalt atom bound to two molecules of two different monoazo dyes of formulae <FORM:0924520/IV(a)/1> in which R and R1 each represent the residue of an ortho-hydroxybenzene which contains a nitro group and is free from water-solubilizing groups and the acyl residue is free from sulphonic and carboxylic acid groups. The dyes are made in conventional manner by metallizing a mixture of two dyes of the above formulae to give a mixture of complexes containing the complex specified or by reacting a 1:1-complex of one of the dyes with an equivalent amount of the other dye. The dyes are water-insoluble and may be used to dye polyamide and polyurethane fibres and to colour lacquers, varnishes and cellulose acetate (see Group IV(a)) in grey, blue and brown shades. Examples are given. Specification 637,404 is referred to.
