Abstract

The invention comprises the metal complexes of monoazo dyes of formula <FORM:1012311/C4-C5/1> wherein X is hydrogen or -SO3H, R is a radical containing at least one substituent capable of reacting with fibres bearing hydroxyl and/or amino groups with formation of a covalent linkage between the dye and the fibre, the nucleus A may be further substituted and the dye molecule contains at least two -SO3H groups. The dyes are prepared by reacting, in any desired order, 1 mol. of a 2-amino-3-naphthol - 6 - mono - or - 6,8 - di - sulphonic acid coupling component, 1 mol. of a diazo compound of an o-aminophenol and 1 mol. of a reactive component (i.e. yielding a radical R as defined above), the dyes being metallized during or after formation. Specified reactive components include halo-substituted and/or unsaturated aliphatic acids and halotriazines or halopyrimidines and their substitution products. Specified metals used in complex formation chromium, cobalt, copper and nickel. The dyes may be used to colour leather, wool, silk, synthetic polyamide and cellulose fibres in brown and violet shades. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 797,946, 838,311, 847,635, 868,492, 870,047, 870,985, 885,814, 902,618, 904,581, 916,094 and 958,026.
