924,435. Counting apparatus; transfer mechanisms; zeroizing-mechanisms. SANGAMO WESTON Ltd. Jan. 14, 1960 [Jan. 15, 1959], No. 1535/59. Class 106 (1). In a cyclometer-type counter speedy rotation of the lowest numeral wheel 10 from " 9 " to " 0 " is obtained by providing the wheel with a series of equi-spaced teeth 23 extending over part only of the circumference of the wheel, the wheel being provided with biasing means in the form of a weight 32 so that after the last pin has passed a co-operating driving member in the form of a worm 24, Fig. 2, having a single spiral 25, the weight 32 causes rapid movement of the wheel until the first pin 23 engages the driving worm. An extra " 9 " is provided on the periphery of the wheel 10 to avoid ambiguity when the wheel is about to be released. The counter is driven from a rotary input spindle 31, a friction clutch 29 driving the shaft 26 of the worm 24, the shaft 26 also carrying an indicating pointer 27. Interdenominational transfer is by Geneva-type mechanism. Zeroizing.-The counter wheels may be individually set to zero by employing a pointed tool in co-operation with the numeral wheel driving teeth 21, which tool is inserted through one of the viewing apertures 20. The drums 10-14 are normally biased to the right by a spring 18, but may be moved to the left by the co-operation of chamfered portions of the teeth 21 or 23 with the pointed tool against the action of the spring 18 to permit individual movement of the numeral wheels. The transfer pinions 22 are capable of corresponding axial movement on their spindle 41. The viewing apertures 20 have a cam formation 34 to assist the required leftward movement when the pointed tool is used.
