Abstract

768,602. Counting-apparatus. GENERAL PRECISION LABORATORY, Inc. April 12, 1955, No. 10468/55. Class 106 (1). A multi-denominational counter comprises a plurality of rotary members each inscribed with a double row of indicia and means selectively exposing one or other row of indicia on each member. As described, the counter registers longitude in degrees and minutes and comprises drums 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, Fig. 2, incribed with numerals as shown in Fig. 8. The first drum 16, Fig. 2, is fast on the input shaft 14 and is connected through Geneva-type transfer mechanism and gearing to the next drum 17. Geneva-type transfer mechanism is also provided between the drums 17 and 18 and 18 and 19. The drum 20 being fixed to the drum 19. A pinion 65 is driven through Geneva mechanism from the drum 19, 20 and is integral with a disc 67, Fig. 4, having an eccentric pin 68 which actuates a lever 23 which with a similar lever 22 supports a shutter 72, Fig. 9, which has two series of windows. Only one of the series of numerals on each drum is visible at one time and the pin 68 is effective as the counter passes through zero to move the shutter 72 so that the other series of numerals become visible. The adjacent numerals on the fastest moving drum 16 are offset from each other so as to reduce the possibility of error in reading during a " transfer " between drum 16 and drum 17 7 and at the same time so as not to lose one " unit " as the drum 16 passes through zero...
