Abstract

Classes 7(3) and 7(5) The invention relates to a starter drive for an engine provided with a motor starter and generator unit and comprising an intermediate shaft and means for supplying the engine with fuel operably connected to the intermediate shaft. When the engine is to be started the electrical machine 2, connected as a motor, is energized and by way of the gearwheel 4, the gear teeth 7b carried by the member 7, the intermediate gears 11 and 12 and the teeth 6a of the member 6 sets the coupling member 6 in rotation. The nut 8 in consequence of its engagement with the thread 1c is forced to the left and presses the member 6 against the coupling member 10 so that a friction coupling is obtained and the crank shaft is set in rotation. During idling the coupling nut retains the position illustrated but is not able to exert great axial pressure on the member 6. On acceleration the thread 1c causes the coupling nut to be moved to the right. The rotation of the crankshaft is then transmitted through the member 7 and the gearwheel 4 to the electrical machine 2 which has meanwhile been connected for operation as a generator. A disc 18 is disposed on the shaft 3 and is associated with a fuel supply line 19, 20. On rotation of the disc the fuel is withdrawn in the form of a thin film and introduced into the carburetter chamber 29. On starting the speed of the disc is higher than if it were connected to the crankshaft. A fuel pump 16 and an oil pump 17 are connected to the shaft 13.
