A hair curler comprises a length of tubular fabric a having woven therein strips of material b carrying outwardly projecting bristles c and mounted on a cylindrical metal frame in the manner of a sleeve. As shown, the material b consists of longitudinal bristle-carrying threads incorporated in tubular fabric woven as an open meshwork of threads of synthetic material on a braiding machine and cut to appropriate lengths for stretching over a helical spring having the end coils close together and secured to the ends of the fabric which is tucked inside. Reinforcing threads e woven into the tubular fabric prevent collapse of the fabric between the coils and in modifications the threads b are inclined to the axis of the coil or are woven as helices.
