Abstract
923,310. Gas-blast circuit-breakers. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Aug. 27, 1959 [Sept. 26, 1958; Nov. 10, 1958], Nos. 30917/58 and 36051/58. Class 38 (5). A control arrangement for a polyphase gas-blast circuit-breaker comprises a manual switch T.C. effective to render operable a discharge device 1 which under the control of the voltage or current in a phase causes the opening of a blast valve associated with that phase, means being provided to effect the opening of the other blast valves with successive time delays so that the phases are interrupted successively at the corresponding instant of the A.C. cycle in the respective phases. In Fig. 1, a thyratron 1 becomes conductive when the switch T.C. is closed and the voltage applied to its grid 10 from a current or voltage transformer 22 reaches a value sufficient for the thyratron to fire. This energizes a relay 7 to cause the opening of the blast valve (not shown) associated with the same phase as the transformer 22. The successive operation of the other blast valves may be effected by providing a similar arrangement of transformer, thyratron and relay for each other phase as shown. Alternatively, the relay 7 in addition to controlling the associated blast valve may also control time-delay relays which control the blast valves associated with the other phases, Fig. 2 (not shown). An ignition may be used in place of the, or each, thyratron.
