Abstract

A composition for water-proofing fibrous materials (see Group VIII) comprises an aqueous liquor prepared by dispensing in water, in the presence of an emulsifier, a solution containing in a mixture of water-insoluble and watersoluble organic solvents (a) a copolymer of (CH3)3SiO 1/2 and SiO2 units and having a CH3:Si ratio of from 0,3:1 to 1,4:1; (b) an organopolysiloxane oil of 50 to 100,000 cs. viscosity at 20 C., and (c) a water-insoluble hydrolysable polymeric alkyl titanate whos alkyl radicals contain not more than 8 C atoms. Polymeric butyl titanate is the preferred titanium compound. Solvents specified are: as waterinsoluble solvents, benzine, toluene, perchloroethylene and cyclohexane, and, as water-soluble solvents, methanol, ethanol, t-butanol, cyclohexanol, dioxane and acetone. Emulsifiers specified are di-sodium-N-octadecyl-sulphosuccinate and dialkylamine-morpholate, -stearate and -oleate. Examples are given.ALSO:Fibrous materials, such as leather or textiles, are waterproofed by impregnation with an aqueous liquor prepared by dispersing in water, in the presence of an emulsifier, a solution containing in a mixture of water-insoluble and water-soluble organic solvents, (a) a siloxane copolymer composed of (CH3)3 SiO 1/2 and SiO2 units and having a CH3:Si ratio of from 0,3:1 to 1,4:1, (b) an organopolysiloxane oil of viscosity 50 to 100,000 cs. at 20 DEG C., and (c) a polymeric alkyl titanate whose alkyl radicals contain not more than 8 C atoms. The treatment of leather may be conducted with simultaneous fat-liquoring. In examples leather is treated with the above aqueous liquor (1) alone and (2) together with a fat-liquoring agent.
