Abstract

A composition for waterproofing leather comprises by weight (1) 9 to 19% of the intercondensation product of (a) a cohydrolysate of a trialkyl silane and an alkyl silicate, the alkyl radicals of both being lower alkyl radicals and the cohydrolysate containing Si-bonded OH groups, and (b) a high viscosity linear organopolysiloxane liquid containing terminal Sibonded OH groups, (2) 9 to 19% of hydrolysed lower alkyl silane containing a curing agent, (3) 24 to 34% of Ti(OR)4, wherein each R is an alkyl radical having less than 13 carbon atoms, and (4) 38 to 48% of a solvent. The intercondensate (1), which is described and claimed in Specification 803,262 may contain saturated, unsaturated or halogenated hydrocarbon radicals. Curing agents specified are the octoates of Sn and Zn and the naphthenates of Zn, Co and Mn. Solvents specified are petroleum derivatives, toluene, benzene, xylene, trichloroethylene, heptane, hexane and isopropanol. The compositions may be used in conjunction with other materials such as polishes and fillers. Specification 772,088 also is referred to.
