Abstract
922,301. Conical mills; agitating pulps. NOBLE & WOOD MACHINE CO. Nov. 21, 1961 [Dec. 5, 1960], No. 41630/61. Classes 59 and 86. [Also in Group VIII] Pulping apparatus comprises a tank 12, the bottom of which is formed with a circular opening within which is mounted a circular rotor 10 in such manner as to.leave an annular orifice 26 for the discharge of pulp, the opposite walls of the orifice co-operating to have a refining action on oversize pieces of pulp. The walls of the orifice may be vertical or inclined and may be shaped to assist the refining action by having vertical ribs with sharp or rounded edges, the latter being illustrated in Fig. 6. The ribs of one element may be set at an angle to those of the other element. In other forms, horizontal ribs may be provided, Figs. 7, 9 and 10. Where the orifice walls are inclined and the rotor 10 is mounted for vertical adjustment, the width of the orifice may be varied. The apparatus may be employed for either batch or continuous processing. Two separate fields of motion of the pulp stock are created by the rotor 10, larger pieces of material being given an upward thrust by impeller blades 22 while smaller pieces tend to flow radially assisted by ejector blades 24 until they pass into the outlet orifice 26. Scraping members 46 are mounted on the rotor 10 to prevent obstruction of the orifice 26.
