Abstract
713,501. Disintegrating paper pulp by agitation &c. BLACK-CLAWSON CO. June 20, 1952 [Nov. 7, 1951], No. 15582/52. Class 96 Paper pulp is disintegrated by a rotating disc 30, Fig. 1, in the floor of a tub 20, the disc having two rings of spaced blades or vanes 52, and 54 plus a single blade 60 shaped to send a jet of pulp over the surface of an inclined screen 42 to sweep it clear of any obstructions not dislodged by the flow generated by the other blades of the disc &c. Reduced pulp passing through the screen 42 flows via an outlet 44 to a regulating-box 45 with a vertically adjustable dam. Trash is thrown through an opening 72 to a passage 71 divided by a baffle 75 into an upper and a lower branch (76 and 77) both branches leading to a tower 70, small fibrous pieces being allowed to return to the tub 20 through the opening 72. Larger pieces of trash rise in the tower 70 and are deflected by a baffle 86, Fig. 3, collected by a bucket conveyer 80 and dumped into a receptacle 84. The disc 30, Fig. 1, is driven by' a pulley 26 &c. geared at 25 to a vertical shaft 27, a cap 51 on the top of which minimizes accumulation of pulp above the centre of the disc. In a modified form suitable for batch operation, the cap 51 is larger and provided with vanes. A modified pulping-engine with the tub and impeller made of welded - sheet metal is described.
