Abstract

921,629. Making electric cables. TELEFONAKTIEBOLAGET L. M. ERICSSON. May 23, 1961 [May 20, 1960], No. 18656/61. Class 36. [Also in Group XXXII] In a method of applying a length of preformed tubing 9 of elastic material as a covering, e.g. to a cable 13, the tubing 9 in its non-expanded state being too small internally to pass over the cable, a pull-through wire 10 is first fed through a length of cover 9 one end of the wire 10 then being led through a tube 4 and passed over a roller 8 and connected to the cable 13 which is wound upon a drum 1 mounted within a pressure vessel 1 the other end being threaded, in a pressure-tight manner, through a nipple 11 and connected to a winch 12. The tubing 9 is fastened at its ends respectively to a nipple 5 on the tube 4 and to the nipple 11 and, by means of control equipment 14, the container 1 is placed under pressure so that the tubing 9 is inflated. The winch 12 is then started, the cable 13 being pulled through the tubing 9 until its end has reached the nipple 11 at which position the winch is stopped and the pressure is reduced in the vessel 1 so that the tubing contracts to fit tightly around the cable 13. Finally the cable 13 with the covering 9 is disconnected from the pull-through wire 10 and the nipples 5, 11.
