Abstract

921,379. Automatic exchange systems. ERICSSON TELEPHONES Ltd. Dec. 14, 1961 [Dec. 14, 1960], No. 43057/60. Class 40 (4). Supervisory apparatus is provided in duplicate, and if at any time one supervisory apparatus emits a pulse but not the other, then one supervisory apparatus is disabled so that only the other is operative in conjunction with the rest of the exchange and a routine test is applied to the operative supervisory apparatus. If the routine test shows up a fault then this supervisory apparatus is replaced by the other. As shown, Fig. 1, if supervisory circuit A emits a pulse unmatched by one from B gate 13A opens to set bi-stable circuit 16A which disables circuit A at gate 18A, and also disables gate 13B to prevent subsequent unmatched pulses from B disabling the latter circuit in a similar manner. In normal operation both outputs from A and B are accepted for use via OR gate 12A, 12B. Operation of 16A (or 16B) resets the continuously operating routine tester 20, Fig. 2, to the beginning of its cycle of tests which are then carried out in succession, each successful test causing the tester to step on to its next test. On a failure being detected the tester fails to step within a prescribed time, and a timer 22 causes an alarm to be given and applies a pulse to change over both bi-stable circuits 16A, 16B. This disables the faulty supervisory circuit and substitutes the other as described with reference to Fig. 1. The routiner then resumes its continuously running sequence on the system as then set up. The supervisory equipment may be involved in the setting up and release of calls and also in metering.
