Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the general formula <FORM:0921316/IV(a)/1> (wherein Ha1 represents a chlorine, bromine or iodine atom, A a straight or branched saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon chain of 1-10 carbon atoms, and R a hydrogen atom, a C2-5 alkoxycarbonyl group, a C1-5 alkyl group which may carry a hydroxy or C1-4 alkoxy group on one or more carbon atoms other than that adjacent to the piperazine ring, or a C2-5 alkoxycarbonyl-C1-4 alkyl group) and the acid addition salts of such of the compounds as are basic, the preparation thereof by appropriate acylation of an N-R-piperazine, and pharmaceutical preparations containing the products together with a carrier. The compounds, in addition to their pharmaceutical uses, are useful as intermediates for the preparation of certain of the starting materials for the process of Specification 921,315. The pharmaceutical preparations, which are active against lungworm, may be in forms suitable for oral, parenteral or topical administration, e.g. powders, granules, draughts, drenches, tablets, capsules, cachets, suspensions, emulsions, injection solutions, ointments or creams. Specification 921,318 also is referred to.
