A siphon for a flushing cistern consists of a body 1 formed with two side-by-side passageways 2, 4 connected at one end, a cylinder 5 open to the passage 4 receiving a piston 6 attached to a rod 7, two spaced co-axial guide passageways 8, 9 at the same end of the cylinder 5 as the passage 4 opens into which receive the rod 7, and a chamber 10 between the passageways 8, 9 into which they debouch.
