[Also in Group I] In apparatus for milling and sifting grain &c. pairs of milling machines and reciprocable sieves are supported, in stacked, alternating relationship, by a frame 10, Fig. 1, comprising a central portion 12, having at least two pairs of vertical columns 18 and 20, and end portions 14 and 16, each having at least one pair of vertical columns 22, 24. Two milling machines 100, 102, constituting a first pair, are supported at the head of columns 18 and 20 and receive equal amounts of the same or different grain &c. Second and fourth pairs of milling machines 112, 114 and 120, 122 are mounted on the outer sides of columns 22 and 24 and a third pair 116, 118 is mounted on the inner sides of columns 18 and 20. Immediately below the first pair of milling machines, two reciprocable sieves 32, 34 are pivotally slung, end-to-end on hangers 68, 72, from brackets 70, 74, to receive millings from the outlets 108, 110 of the said machines. The sieves are reciprocated, in balanced opposition to each other, by two eccentrics mounted, 180 degrees out of phase, on a rotating shaft 48; rods 82 and 90 of the eccentric straps 86, 88, Fig. 3, being pivoted to the adjacent inner ends of the sieves. Pairs of similarly reciprocating sieves 36, 38; 40, 42 and 44, 46 are likewise slung below the second, third and fourth pairs of milling machines. Each sieve has an inlet 80, Fig. 2, and at least one screen 76. Tailings, which do not pass through the screens, are discharged, through outlets 94, into the milling machines located immediately below the sieves. Final tailings leave the sieves 44 and 46 through outlets 123. Millings passing through the screens are discharged through intermediate outlets 96, 97. Specification 2508/1867 is referred to.
