Abstract
920,970. Sphygmomanometers. DAVID CLARK & CO. Inc. Jan. 10, 1962, No. 915/62. Class 81 (2). The inflating bulb of a sphygmomanometer has a sliding valve arrangement by means of which the interior of the cuff can be connected to a thumb-controlled exhaust outlet. The hose 12, leading to the cuff, is attached, by a connection 14, to a body member 16 while the bulb 20 is mounted at one end of a tubular member 26 which is axially slidable in the body 16. In the position shown, the outer surface of member 26 is sealed by 0-rings 28, 30 and air from the bulb passes through a valve 40 to the tube 12 and cannot escape therefrom. However, the member 26 may be drawn towards the right to the limit permitted by the annular abutment 32 and surrounding cavity 24 so that its forward end is no longer sealed by the ring 28 and the tube 12 is then in communication with an outlet orifice 34 which may be closed at will by the operator's thumb being placed in the curved recess 36. Specifications 740,181 and 755,915 are referred to.
