920,969. Universal Joints. DAIMLER-BENZ A.G. Dec. 21, 1961 [Dec. 30, 1960], No. 45899/61. Class 80 (2). Two forked members 11, 12 of a universal joint are connected by an intermediate member 1 having transverse pins 2 carrying rollers 3a, 3b, 3c, 3d transmitting torque between the fork ends, the ends of the pins 2 and rollers 3 are formed as a common spherical surface to provide additional centring means for the intermediate member in conjunction with a complementary spherical surface formed in sliding pieces 10 slidable along side plates 12 of the adjacent forks. Cylindrical abutment members 14 are spring urged against spherical end faces 13 of the intermediate member 1 and are cut away to allow movement of the joint. The members 14 are prevented from rotation by pins 21 and are bored to allow the passage of lubricant to the joint.
