Abstract

920,450. Laminates. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. March 30, 1961 [April 7, 1960], No. 12468/60. Class 140. A process for laminating a woven scrim and a sheet of synthetic thermoplastic material comprises applying the woven scrim as it emerges from the loom and before subjection to further operation, to a surface of a synthetic thermoplastic sheet coated with adhesive and thereafter bonding the sheet to the scrim by pressure. The scrim may be in plain or leno weave of cotton fibre, glass fibre yarns, nylon yarn, polyethylene terephthalate, or polypropylene. The thermoplastic sheet material may be of a vinyl polymer or copolymer compounded or modified with other synthetic resins, such as copolymers or terpolymers of acrylonitrile, butadiene and styrene, rubbers, plasticizers, pigments or fillers. The adhesive may be a butadiene/acrylonitrile, butadiene/methylmethacrylate, or butadiene/styrene copolymer or mixtures with a urea or phenolformaldehyde resin, or with polyvinyl acetate. Infra-red heating may be used for drying the adhesive. The laminate may be embossed and/or printed, or further laminated to a second thermoplastic sheet.
