920,101. Load handling trolleys. LLOYD'S PACKING WAREHOUSES (HOLDINGS) Ltd. Oct. 5, 1961 [Oct. 5, 1960], No. 34081/60. Classes 78 (1), 78 (3) and 78 (4). A wheeled load-handling trolley consists of a base 1, a folding ramp 16 attached thereto, a raisable platform 13 suspended from corner posts 7, 8 (not shown) and 9, 10 on the base, and a hinged flap 19 carried by the platform at the end thereof remote from the ramp 16, so that loads may be run on to the platform by use of the ramp 16 and unloaded into an aircraft with the platform at a higher level, using the flap 19 to bridge any gap between the platform and the aircraft. The platform raising mechanism may be housed as shown in the corner posts comprising, e.g. a motor to drive the pulleys 25 and 26, or rams 21, 22 to raise these pulleys-in which case a cable attached at one end to the base and at the other to the platform is wrapped round each pulley-or rams which raise the platform directly. Alternatively, rams not carried in the posts may be employed to raise and the posts merely to guide the platform: such rams may act on a lazy-tong lever system. In handling conventional loads the platform is raised equally at all four corners. In some forms for such use the platform is detachable from the corner posts for pre-loading and/or its surface fitted with means such as a rollerway for conveying goods therealong. For handling vehicles, the platform may be formed with wheel guides and in use is raised only at the end remote from the ramp 16 so that the platform itself provides an extended rampway up which the vehicles may be driven from ground to loading level.
