Abstract
Wool tops are printed by melange or vigoreux printing with a synthetic plastic solution or dispersion so as to provide spaced strips or bars of the plastic material on the tops with unprinted areas between them, thereafter the wool is spun and woven in any normal way and the woven piece is dyed. The plastic solution or dispersion may be coloured and specified plastic materials are cellulose acetate, viscose, polyvinyl chloride, nylon and acrylic polymers. The paste may be of varying consistencies and may be applied with varying degrees of pressure. A drying stage may be introduced after the printing and before the spinning. In the example wool or worsted fibres are melange printed with wavy lines 1/4 inch wide spaced 1/4 inch apart with a coloured cellulose acetate paste, the wool is then woven and the fabric dyed to give a two-tone or shot effect.
