Class 7(3) The opening 12 of a combustion chamber 11 in a piston is formed by a plate 13 secured to the piston by pins 14 which are an interference fit in bores in the piston. The piston may be of light alloy and the plate 13 of a heat resistant alloy, e.g. silicon chrome steel or stainless steel. A layer of heat insulating material may be inserted beneath the plate.
