Abstract
A wax composition comprises by weight (a) 45-70%, preferably 55-65%, of a refined paraffin wax of melting point 50 DEG -63 DEG C., (b) 20-30%, preferably 22-27,5%, of a plastic paraffin wax of melting point 42 DEG -47 DEG C., preferably 43 DEG -45 DEG C., (c) 5-35%, preferably 7,5-15% of a heavy distillate wax of melting point 63 DEG -79 DEG C., preferably 68 DEG -73 DEG C., and (d) 0,05-5%, preferably 0,1-0,5% of a polyolefin, e.g. polypropylene, polybutylene, polyisobutylene, but generally polyethylene, having an average molecular weight of 1,000-100,000, preferably 1,500-4,000. The refined paraffin wax (a) may suitably consist of 5-20%, preferably 7,5-15%, of a refined wax of melting point 50 DEG -54 DEG C. and 40-65%, preferably 45-55%, of a refined wax of melting point 57 DEG -63 DEG C. to make up the total of 45-70%. The composition may also include 10-20% of a residual microcrystalline wax, and may be used for waxing food and milk cartons. U.S.A. Specification 2,153,553 also is referred to.
