Abstract
A wax composition comprises a major proportion of a refined paraffin wax, with a boiling spread between the 5 per cent and 95 per cent points not greater than 90 DEG F. at 10 mm. pressure, and a microcrystalline wax and/or polyethylene of molecular weight between 4000 and 22,000. The microcrystalline wax used is a residual type petroleum wax having a melting point of above 145 DEG F. and an oil content of 1-10 per cent by weight. The refined paraffin wax may be prepared from a wax distillate by a plate-and-frame pressing operation or by solvent dewaxing with, for example, methyl ethyl ketone and toluene, followed by sweating or solvent deoiling.
