Abstract

917,306. Furnace recuperators. WELLING- TON TUBE WORKS Ltd. Nov. 15, 1961 [Dec. 1, 1960], No. 41283/60. Class 64 (3). In a recuperator for an industrial furnace comprising an assembly of metal tubes 10 contained in a housing 11, a jacket encloses the ends of the tubes at which the hot gases enter, and a liquid cooling medium circulated through the jacket to cool the tube ends passes to a heat exchanger 17 where it is cooled by air entering the recuperator. As shown, the outlet ends of the tubes 10 are supported by a tube plate 12, while the jacket at the inlet ends is formed by a pair of parallel similar tube plates 13. The housing 11 has an inlet conduit 14, in which the heat exchanger 17 is mounted, and an outlet passage 15 for the combustion air being heated, and transverse baffles 16 direct the air around the tubes 10. The coolant is circulated by a pump 19 round a virtually closed circuit, and may be liquid throughout, or may be partly vaporized in the jacket and then condensed in the heat exchanger.
