Abstract
917,117. Fluid-bearings. MECANORGA S.A. Dec. 13, 1960 [Dec. 24, 1959], No. 42881/60. Class 12 (1). The position of a rotationally or translationary movable member supported by fluid under pressure in a fixed member is adjusted by the opening of a slidable sleeve valve arranged in the fluid circuit, thus increasing the fluid pressure. A bearing 2, Fig. 2, supporting a rotating shaft 1 has at least one chamber 3 to which fluid under pressure is supplied through a passage 11a. Diametrically opposite the chamber, a slidable sleeve valve 5 is carried by a bearing 19 secured in bearing 2 and fluid under pressure is supplied to the bore 8 of the sleeve through a passage 24 and between the head 4 of the sleeve and shaft 1. The other end of bore 8 is connected to passage 11a by a further passage 11, and also to a discharge 10 through a port 9. An adjustable port is formed by a collar 14 on the sleeve, and a ring 15 on bearing 2, and fluid passes through this port to a chamber 13, and thence to discharge 10 via a port 16. In operation, with shaft 1 coaxial with bearing 2, and an external force acting on the shaft above chamber 3, the shaft will move towards the chamber and the fluid pressure will increase, thus increasing the pressure in bore 8 of sleeve 5. Sleeve 5 will be forced away from shaft 1, and the port formed by collar 14 and ring 15 will allow fluid to pass into chamber 13 until the pressures in the latter and bore 8 are the same, whereupon the movement of sleeve 5 will cease. The pressure in chamber 3 will build up and shaft 1 will move back to its original position. Different fluids may be used for chamber 3 and the remainder of the circuit and in this case a slide valve 29, Fig. 3, is inserted between passages 11, 11a, and fluid to supply chamber 3 passes through a port 32 and is bled-off through a passage 36 and exhausted, due to movement of valve 29 when the chamber pressure is increased.
