Abstract
917,107. Integrating-apparatus. PARKINSON COWAN Ltd. Nov. 30, 1960 [Dec. 9, 1959], No. 41907/59. Class 106 (4). A dry gas meter has a shaft 10 driven by the metering mechanism, a pawl 14 mounted on a radial arm 12 rotating with the shaft 10, a ratchet-wheel 16 which can be engaged by the pawl to drive indicating mechanism 24 and a device 26, 27, 28, 29, responsive to changes of temperature for intermittently interrupting the engagement between the pawl-and-ratchet wheel to provide a temperature compensated indication. The device comprises an arcuate shroud 26 carried by a fixed bushing 27 and a similar shroud 28 carried by a bushing rotatable in the bushing 27. A bimetallic spiral 29 is fixed at one end to the bushing 27 by a screw 30 and at the other to the shroud 28 which it will rotate as the temperature varies to vary the number of teeth of the ratchet-wheel 16 which are covered jointly by the two shrouds 26, 28. When a pin 15 on the pawl 14 encounters the rounded end of shroud 26, it rocks the pawl 14, against the action of a spring, out of engagement with the ratchet-wheel 16 and when the pin 15 drops off the end of shroud 28 the spring brings the pawl 14 back into engagement with the ratchet-wheel 16. Thus, the drive from the meter shaft 10 to the indicator 24 is interrupted for a fraction of each revolution determined by the temperature.
