792,885. Indicating and integrating apparatus. LANDIS & GYR AKT.-GES. April 12, 1956 [April 13, 1955], No. 11206/56. Class 106(4). Mechanism for sensing a value represented by the deflection of the pointer 27 of a measuring instrument comprises a sensing lever 48, a rotating pawl-carrier 43 having a pawl 45 acting periodically on a ratchet wheel 46 and a resetting lever 56 arranged so that in each rotation the pawl 45 and carrier 43 pivot the two levers 48, 56 from inoperative positions, moving the sensing lever 48 until it contacts the pointer 27 to lock the pawl and moving the re-setting lever 56 through the full potential range of the lever 48 whereafter it falls off the pawl-carrier 43 due to its eccentric mounting relative to the ratchet wheel 46 and returns the lever 48 to inoperative position under the force of a spring 59. As applied to integrating apparatus, the pawl-carrier 43 is rotated at constant speed by a synchronous motor 44 and the ratchet wheel 46 drives a counter which thus registers the integral with respect to time of a variable whose instantaneous value is indicated by the pointer 27 against an edgewise scale 32 secured to a bowed member 30. A second bowed member 33 is spring-urged against the first to clamp the pointer 27 during integration, the reaction of the readily rotatable, light lever 48 against the clamped pointer 27 causing the pawl 45 to engage the ratchet wheel 46 and drive it until released by a stud 55 on a lever 51, which can be set against heavy friction at the zero position of the pointer 27. A plate 11 carrying all the mechanism has two flat bars 12, 13 for securing the apparatus in its housing. As applied to a calorimeter, temperature difference and quantity of heat carrier may be multiplied electrically to give a voltage proportional to heat energy, which may be fed to the measuring instrument 26, integration giving heat quantity over a period.
