Abstract
917,009. Reciprocating motors. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. April 13, 1961 [April 13, 1960], No. 13283/60. Class 35. In an electromagnetic vibrator for testing electronic equipment, of the type including a table attached to a vibrator coil and an electromagnetic system, the arrangement being such that when an oscillatory signal is applied to the vibrator coil it is caused to vibrate in a stationary magnetic field set up by the electromagnetic system, the table and vibrator coil may be replaced by a moving system of different shape so as to receive different shaped articles. As shown in Fig. 2 (Provisional Specification), the moving system 2 includes a circular part 4 and a cylindrical portion 5 carrying a vibrator coil 11, the upper surface of the part 4 carrying a table 6 formed with a groove 7 in which a thermionic valve to be tested may be fastened. The moving system 2 is supported and centred within the vibrator body 1 by means of metal disc spiders 12, 13 in which are cut a concentric series of arcuate slots 14. The electromagnetic system of the vibrator body 1 is formed by a number of iron members 15 and inner and outer polepieces 16, 17 energized by field coil 18, the polepiece 17 being fitted with a copper band. Whilst the vibrator is operating cooling air is supplied by way of ports 20 into an annular region 21 from whence it passes into the region beneath the spider 13, the air then passing over the pole faces and out through holes 24. An alternative moving system 3, Fig. 2 (Complete Specification), having a flat table 26, may be interchanged with moving system 2 to enable flat shaped articles to be tested. The vibrator may be operated by causing oscillatory currents to be induced in the moving system itself. Specification 885,024 is referred to.
