A container having a neck 15 has a closure in the form of a cap 17 engaged by retaining means 14 around the neck, the cap having retained within it a stopper 29 which seals within the container neck and is laterally slidable in the cap 17. In a modification, Fig. 3, the cap threads are replaced by a threaded insert 31 secured in the cap 30. In each embodiment, the stopper 29 is retained by its flange portion lightly engaging behind the cap threads.
