Abstract

916,662. Wick burners. KAMISHIMA, M. Feb. 4, 1959 [Feb. 19, 1958; April 21, 1958], No. 4023/59. Class 75 (1). [Also in Group VI] Rice and water is boiled in a kettle 2 within a casing 1 (see Group VI) heated by an oil stove 32 whose wick is automatically lowered when all the water has boiled away. A plate 9 carries a spring-biased plate 11 with an adjusting screw 13 at its lower end. Screw 13 is engaged by a bimetallic strip 8 attached to kettle 2 when it is heated above a certain temperature so that plate 11 releases a spring biased lever 16 which lifts an operating rod 20. The lower end of rod 20 is attached to a spring-biased plate 25 mounted on a plate 23 secured to a tube 22 attached to the stove 32. A wick-operating shaft 21 projects through the tube 22 and carries an operating knob 28 and a spring-biased drum 29, connected to knob 28, carries a part 30 which is engaged by the plate 25 when the wick is raised and is disengaged by the operation of rod 20 to move plate 25. The wick 37 is carried on a ring 38 having a pin 39 which engages slots 42 in rings 40, 41. A pinion 44 rotated by shaft 21 engages a rack 43 carried on the ring 41. When the wick is lowered, the lever 16 also operates a rod 35 to close a switch 24 in the circuit of a bell 36. In operation, the apparatus is set by lifting lever 16 and turning knob 28 and the wick is ignited. When all the water has boiled away the temperature operates bimetallic strip 8.
