Apparatus for discharging weighed quantities of pourable material into packaging containers P comprises fixed weighers 2, a conveyer 1 for transporting containers to a filling zone, transfer receptacles 7 movable with the conveyer over part of its travel, and shoots 4 which are swingable about pivots 5 whereby material is discharged through the shoots into the containers. The receptacles 7 are arranged to be reciprocated and are filled from the weighers when moving in the opposite sense to the containers and discharge into the containers when moving with them in the same sense. Each weigher 2 is made up of two separate component weighers with their discharge nozzles 3 opening into one shoot 4. The receptacles 7 are mounted on a rail 8 from which a slotted arm 35 depends and a roller 34 is guided in the slot and projects from an endless chain 33, resulting in reciprocation of the rail 8 and thus of the receptacles 7. Slotted arms 30 rise from the rail 8 and engage pins 31 on the shoots 4, to which the reciprocations of the rail 8 are thereby transmitted The rail 8 is also reciprocated vertically by imparting the required movement to its guideway 9, which is pivoted to bell cranks. 61, connected by a link 62, and one of the bell cranks is oscillated from a cam 64 through linkage 65, 67. Each receptacle 7 has pivoted flaps 10, 11 at its base, normally closed by springs 73, and as the rail 8 descends, levers 70, 71 connected to the flaps bear against a rail 12 and open the flaps for the contents of the receptacles 7 to be discharged into a container P. In a modification the receptacles 7 are secured to a conveyer chain which runs above the conveyer 1, and the weighers 2 first empty into the receptacles 7, which then traverse a return section of the conveyer and come into register with containers P into which they then discharge. Alternatively the conveyer chain on which the receptacles 7 are mounted may be at one side so that only one of its straight sections is above the conveyer 1. In the latter two embodiments the closure flaps 10, 11 are as shown in Fig. 11 and are operated by a cam rail 12a In a simpler arrangement the closure flaps may be dispensed with and the weighers may discharge through the shoots 4 and receptacles 7 directly into the containers P.
