Abstract

915,818. Rotary-blade mowers; forage harvesters. DEERE & CO. April 11, 1961 [April 27, 1960], No. 13028/61. Class 6(3). In a rotor, for a rotary-blade mower, or for a forage-harvester, having a horizontal transverse shaft 10 and two or more sets 16, 18 of radial arm-like elements connected to the shaft and constructed so that their outer ends 42, 64 are offset in opposite directions whereby the shaft is subject to an end-for-end turning moment on rotation, adjustable balance weights 86, 88 are carried at opposite ends of the shaft to cancel the turning moment. The shaft is of box section, composed of two channels 20, 24 welded together along their abutting edges and welded to end-pieces 26, 30 incorporating stub-shafts 28, 32 on which the rotor is journalled. U-shaped members 12, 14 are welded to the box-section and have slots 46, 56 therealong for the reception of the inner ends 40, 58 of the arm-like elements 38, 60, these all being freely rotatable on rods 48, 62 passed longitudinally through the U-members and through two circular end-discs 66, 68. The rods are secured by wedges, Fig. 5 (not shown), engaging in slots in the U-members and in the rods. The end discs have arcuate slots 82, 84, one slot on one end-disc carrying the adjustable weight 86 and the diametrically opposite slot on the other disc carrying the weight 88.
