In a mower of the type comprising a driven, rotary, horizontal shaft carrying flail-type cutter blades which swing outwardly under the action of centrifugal forces as the shaft rotates, the blades are mounted in pairs on lugs extending radially outwards from the shaft. Each pair of blades is connected to the corresponding lug or lugs by a split link, the free ends of the link engaging with attachment members secured to the free ends of the lug or lugs. As shown in Fig. 2, the blades 26 of the mower are connected to pairs of lugs 31 welded to the cutter shaft 11, by means of U-shaped links 34, each engaging in slots 46 in a pair of blades, the free ends of each link being located in channelled attachment members 33 bolted in place between a pair of lugs 31. The ends of the links are thereby securely located between the webs 37 of the attachment members, the end flanges 42 thereof, and the outer ends of the lugs 31. In one modification of this arrangement, the end flanges 42 of the members 33 are deformed slightly to accommodate a link 34 of split, circular shape. The side flanges 38 of the attachment members prevent rotation of the members relative to the lugs, and in an alternative arrangement, where the flanges 38 are omitted, such rotation is prevented by extending the members 33 to abut against the shaft 11, the abutment edges of the members being curved to conform to the shape of the shaft 11. Alternatively, and as shown in Fig. 5 the attachment members comprise plates 52, 53, each formed with holes to receive the ends of a link 34 and interspaced with pairs of lugs 31, 31<SP>1</SP>. The lug 31 of each pair is shorter than the lug 31<SP>1</SP>, the latter being sufficiently long to extend between the ends of the corresponding link 34. Alternatively, the shorter lug may be dispensed with, in which case the attachment members are bolted one on each side of the longer lug 31<SP>1</SP>.
